The recent publication of that ridiculous study, the one that claims that the g-spot is all in our heads, inspired me to request some items for review that are all about the g-spot. As someone who enjoys a bit of g-spot stimulation every now and then but has not yet found it to be the end-all of all sexual stimulation, I thought I would be ideal for educating myself further and then testing out what I learned on that particular part of my anatomy.
For the first review in this series, I’ll be talking about the G-spot Kit from Babeland, which they generously provided for free for me to review.
What it is:
The G-spot Kit is actually two items sold together in one convenient (and discounted) package: Violet Blue’s Smart Girl’s Guide to the G-Spot and the popular Orchid G vibrator.
The book, The Smart Girl’s Guide to the G-Spot, is a relatively short but highly informative how-to guide on exploring and stimulating your G-Spot. It also covers a surprising variety of topics that don’t appear to be related at first glance, such as safe sex, anal play, vulva and g-spot massage, and BDSM, making this one helpful little book. Interspersed with these chapters are a number of erotic short stories intended to put the sexiest of ideas into your head.
Despite everything contains, the book itself is quite small. It is 160 pages long, and at 7.8″ by 5.3″ it is the right size to fit into any briefcase, laptop bag, or purse for a little light reading wherever you happen to find yourself.
Also included is the Orchid G, a long, slender vibrator with a bulbous tip. It is made out of a slightly sparkly hard plastic; mine came in a lilac color. The speed of this vibe can be adjusted by twisting the base. It takes two AA batteries, which are inserted through the bottom.
Because the Orchid G is hard plastic, it can be cleaned with soap and warm water. It cannot be completely sterilized, so don’t try boiling it. It should not be shared without putting a condom over it first.
G-Spot 101:
Violet Blue’s book was both highly readable and informative. Violet Blue takes special care throughout the book to make sure that the reader feels like both enjoying g-spot stimulation and deciding to go without are completely normal and okay. With the snarky voice I’ve come to expect and love from her, she introduces the readers to their anatomy, dispels some major and widespread myths (women do NOT pee/ejaculate from their vaginas, okay, internet?), and introduces some techniques that readers can try out on their newly-discovered (or totally familiar) pleasure spot.
I read the entire thing in just a few evenings. As a smart girl who was aware that she did not know everything there was to know about the g-spot, I eagerly read each chapter. I didn’t find a single one boring, and while I didn’t discover anything completely ground-breaking about my anatomy I did pick up some useful tips and gain a deeper understanding of exactly what is going on down there. I can’t imagine a single female-bodied person who wouldn’t benefit from the information contained in this book.
Orchid G:
I set out with my newly-gained knowledge and my Orchid G to see what kind of fun I could have with my G-Spot.
The first time I pulled out the Orchid G for playtime I didn’t actually make it to my intended testing activity… I had so much fun playing with this vibrator on my clit that I came quickly and didn’t feel like trying for a second orgasm. This toy is nice and strong, and the vibrations are concentrated in the glossy-smooth tip, which is why it felt so good as an external vibe. I found the dial at the base easy to use to change the speed of vibration, and I didn’t notice any obnoxious seams anywhere on the toy. The Orchid G isn’t perfect, though. It is LOUD. And then sometimes it rattles itself apart a tiny bit and gets even LOUDER. This is a little bit distracting, and I have to make sure none of my housemates are home before using this as an external vibe.
For those looking to use this as an internal vibe only, however, you are in luck! Upon insertion this vibe loses nearly all of its bark while maintaining its bite. The shape of the head is not too pointy, not too round, and tilting it at different angles results in different concentrations of pressure and vibration. The long handle allowed me to get the leverage I needed for a firm g-spot massage, but was a little bit awkward to use.
While I found using the Orchid G on my g-spot to be a nice addition to a clitoral orgasm, I have yet to experience a g-spot orgasm with it. It is entirely possible that I am completely spoiled by my Pure Wand, a g-spot toy that I have had much success with.
The bottom line:
While I have not yet had any differing orgasmic results after reading The Smart Girl’s Guide to the G-Spot, I do not regret for a second having read it cover-to-cover. I feel like I understand my anatomy and my arousal process much better, and the book gave me the words I needed to help explain what I like to my partner, who picked up on some of Violet Blue’s techniques almost immediately and with enthusiasm. I am very pleased that I have discovered her tips for vulva massage! The Orchid G seems to be a great toy, especially for the price, and is actually my current favorite g-spot vibe. My body can be a little persnickety, so I just know that with a little persistence the Orchid G will get me there.
Thanks, Babeland, for helping me learn more about myself and for sending me the G-Spot Kit!

I came across this little “package deal” and after reading this, I may get it. I have had no luck stimulating my g, although I can feel exactly where it is. On the other hand, there is another spot (way way back, my cervix perhaps?) that tingles wonderfully when my husband pounds me just right from behind.
Looking forward to more posts on this topic.
I think one of the good things to come out of that absurd study was the amount of new exploration and discussion people are doing with regard to the G-spot. I’ve definitely enjoyed a lot of blog and forum posts on the topic…
It’s something I never really thought to actively explore until that study came out. And then, when suddenly I was being told that this pleasurable spot didn’t exist, I felt a rebellious streak and just *had* to go hunting for it. I’d imagine a lot of people had the same reaction, so it seems like some good has come of it after all.
